01What this policy covers
This policy explains, in plain terms, the cookies and similar technologies we use on this website — what they collect, who receives that information, how long we keep it and what choices you have. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers your personal information generally, and our Financial Services Guide.
We are a licensed financial advice business. We describe our practices here as they are today, and section 8 sets out the changes we are making. Where our practices change, we will update this policy and its version number.
02What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies include browser storage (which works much the same way) and small pieces of code in a web page or an email that record that something was viewed or clicked.
Australia does not have a law that requires your consent before a cookie is set. Instead, our obligations come from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, which govern the collection and use of information about you. That is the framework we apply.
03What we use on this website
There are four kinds of technology on this site.
Necessary. These make the site work — keeping your session and protecting our forms from automated abuse. They do not build a profile of you.
Our own measurement. We record which pages are read on this site, how long is spent on them, and the campaign, search or website that referred you. This is collected by us, stored by us, and is never sent to Google or to any advertising company. We use it to tell which of our guides are useful and where the site is failing people.
Before you identify yourself this is held against a random identifier in a cookie called iadvice_vid and we do not know who you are. If you later submit an enquiry, we link those pages to your enquiry so we can respond usefully — and we tell you so at the form, not just here. You can switch this off at any time using Cookie settings in the footer of any page; switching it off deletes the identifier immediately and stops any further recording.
We also record when a lead-magnet form has already been completed so you are not asked twice.
Google Analytics. Described in section 4.
Scheduling and messaging. When you book a meeting we use Calendly, which sets its own cookies on its own domain. When we email you, we record whether the message was delivered, opened and whether a link in it was followed. When we send you a text message or call you, we use Twilio.
We do not use advertising or social-media tracking pixels on this website. There is no Meta, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn tracking code on any page.
04Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how our pages are found and used, so we can tell which of our guides are useful and where the site is failing people.
Google Analytics is off unless you turn it on. We do not load it, and nothing about your visit reaches Google, until you choose to allow it. When you first arrive we ask, with the options given equal prominence and no pre-ticked boxes; if you decline, or simply ignore the question, nothing loads. You can change your mind either way at any time using Cookie settings in the footer of every page.
Google Analytics records information such as the pages you view, how long you spend on them, the site or search that referred you, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. This information is sent to Google LLC and is stored and processed outside Australia, including in the United States. Google's handling of it is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy.
Section 7 explains how to stop Google Analytics from collecting information about your visit today.
05Pages where we do not track at all
Some of what we write about — aged care, cognitive decline, disability and illness-related payments, enduring powers of attorney — could reveal something about the health or capacity of the person reading it, or of a family member. Simply visiting such a page can itself disclose sensitive information.
We therefore run no analytics at all on those pages. Google Analytics is not loaded on them, and we do not record which of them you have read. This applies regardless of any choice you make elsewhere on this site — you cannot switch it on.
This rule is built into how the site is produced rather than configured in a marketing tool, so it cannot be turned off by accident, and we check that it is still working.
06How this connects to you
Before you identify yourself, the information described above is held against a random identifier and we do not know who you are.
If you submit an enquiry, download a guide or book a meeting, we link the referral information from your visit to your contact record so we can see how you found us and respond usefully. From that point it is personal information about you and is handled under our Privacy Policy.
We do not keep a record of the individual pages you have browsed against your name, and we do not buy information about you from data brokers or advertising networks.
07Your choices
Use our own control. Cookie settings in the footer of every page controls two separate things — Google Analytics, and our own page recording — for this browser, at any time. Turning either off takes effect immediately, and turning off page recording also deletes the identifier we were using. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing.
Stop Google Analytics everywhere. Google publishes a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits to any website, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Most browsers also offer tracking protection that blocks it.
Block or delete cookies. Every major browser lets you block cookies, delete those already stored, or browse privately. Our forms and booking tools may not work properly if you block everything.
Ask us. If you would prefer we did not use analytics in connection with your visits, or you want to know what we hold about you, contact our Privacy Officer using the details in section 11 and we will action it.
Marketing. Every marketing email we send contains an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to any text message. See section 9.
08Changes we are making
The choice described in section 4 is now in place — this is version 1.1 of this policy, and it replaces version 1.0, which described analytics running without a gate.
We are also formalising how long we keep website measurement information, and reducing it to the shortest period that remains useful.
We are also working on our own first-party measurement, which would let us understand how the site is used without sending anything to a third party. If we introduce it we will describe it here, and it will carry its own opt-out.
09Marketing messages
We only send marketing emails or text messages where we are permitted to under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) — that is, where you have asked us to, or where you have an existing relationship with us and the message relates to it.
Every commercial message identifies us as the sender and contains a working unsubscribe. We action unsubscribe requests within five business days, as required. You can also ask us to stop at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer.
Telemarketing calls are subject to the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth) and we maintain our own do-not-call list in addition to the national register.
10How long we keep it
Website measurement information — the record of pages read — is kept for 13 months and then deleted automatically. The identifier in your browser expires on the same schedule.
Enquiries that do not become client relationships are kept while they remain useful to us and then deleted.
Client files, including advice records, must be kept for at least seven years under section 912G of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). Customer identification records must be kept for at least seven years after our relationship ends under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth). These legal obligations override any shorter period.
11Access, correction and complaints
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Contact our Privacy Officer, Theodore Karoumbalis, at support@iadvice.net.au or on 0483 945 888.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, please tell us first so we can put it right — our complaints process is set out at Complaints. If you remain dissatisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992. Complaints about our financial services can also be referred to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority at www.afca.org.au or 1800 931 678.
12Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we change its version number and effective date, shown at the top of this page. Where a change affects what we collect or who receives it, we will make that clear. Previous versions are available on request.
Version 1.2 — effective 1 September 2026. Adds our own page-recording measurement (section 3), its opt-out (section 7) and a stated retention period of 13 months (section 10). Version 1.1 introduced the Google Analytics opt-in.
